Slovenian Riviera
Slovenia's 46-kilometre coastline on the Gulf of Trieste is the country's only sea access, and every centimetre of it punches above its weight. The tidal regime is Adriatic semidiurnal with a spring range of 0.6–1.0 m — small by Atlantic standards but significant enough to alter beach width, harbour depth, and the character of the walled towns that perch above the waterline. The Bora wind, a katabatic northeast that funnels down from the Karst plateau, can drive water levels 0.2–0.4 m above or below the predicted tide on short notice. Piran, Koper, and Portorož sit within 25 km of each other and share essentially the same tidal signal as the Trieste gauge 5 km to the north, yet each offers a distinct experience: Piran is medieval and pedestrian, Koper is a working port with a Venetian old town, Portorož is the resort end of the coast with the only broad sandy beach in the region.
