About tides at Rendezvous Bay, Anguilla

Rendezvous Bay occupies the southwest coast of Anguilla, a 3.5-kilometre arc of the whitest sand on the island facing due south across the Caribbean toward the French side of Saint Martin 12 kilometres away. The bay is as close to fully sheltered as any Anguillian beach gets: the northeast trade wind arrives from behind and the southwest orientation means the prevailing swell and wind-chop from the northeast has no direct fetch into the bay. The result is consistently flat, glass-clear water that holds its colour — pale aquamarine over the sand flat, deepening to turquoise and then blue — across the full width of the bay. The tidal regime is mixed semidiurnal microtidal: spring range 0.3 to 0.4 metres, on the lower end of the Anguillian coast due to the south-facing Caribbean exposure sheltered from the full Atlantic signal. Two unequal highs and two unequal lows per day. The tiny tidal range makes this the most tide-independent beach on the island; there is no meaningful change in conditions between low and high water. The afternoon offshore breeze that develops on the south coast fills in gently and adds barely perceptible chop to the flat water. The Cuisinart Golf Resort and Spa sits at the east end of the bay; the long curve of public beach runs west from the resort toward the western headland at Blowing Point. The Anguillian principle that all beaches are public to the high water mark is respected here; non-guests have full access to the beach in front of the resort. The western section of the bay, away from the resort infrastructure, is quieter and more natural. Blowing Point, at the western end of the bay, is the other primary ferry terminal for Saint Martin — passenger ferry service from Blowing Point to Marigot on the French side runs more frequently than the Sandy Ground service and is 20 to 25 minutes across the strait. The ferry dock and a small customs building sit at the extreme western end of the Rendezvous Bay arc. Paddleboarding and kayaking on Rendezvous Bay are optimal here because the south-facing orientation and the shelter from the prevailing northeast wind produce flat water through the middle of the day, unlike the north and east coast bays that develop surface chop when the trade wind reaches full strength by 10:00 or 11:00. Rental equipment is available through the resort and from independent operators who set up on the beach in high season. For photographers, the view across Rendezvous Bay toward Saint Martin at golden hour — the warm light from the west illuminating the water and the outline of Saint Martin's mountains behind — is one of the most photographed compositions in Anguilla. The flat water maximises the colour saturation. The best window is 17:00 to 18:30 in winter, 17:30 to 19:00 in summer. Tide predictions for Rendezvous Bay come from Open-Meteo Marine, a global gridded ocean model. Accuracy is typically within plus or minus 45 minutes on timing and 0.2 to 0.3 metres on height. At a spring range of 0.3 to 0.4 metres, this is among the most tide-neutral beaches in the eastern Caribbean for planning purposes. The Cuisinart Golf Resort at the east end of the bay maintains a daily-guest option for the beach restaurant and pool area; the fee is typically USD 50 to 75 per person, applied to food and beverage. For visitors who want a beach day with full facilities — loungers, beach service, food, and a pool — this is the practical option on the Rendezvous Bay stretch. The resort's beach is the same public shoreline, and non-guests using the area outside the resort's marked zone are within their legal rights under Anguillian beach access law.

Tide questions about Rendezvous Bay, Anguilla

What is the tide range at Rendezvous Bay?

Rendezvous Bay is among the most microtidal beaches in Anguilla — spring range 0.3 to 0.4 metres, mixed semidiurnal. The south-facing Caribbean exposure sheltered from the Atlantic trades produces the smallest effective tidal range on the island. Two unequal highs and two unequal lows per day. At this scale the tide is negligible as a planning variable; there is no meaningful difference in beach conditions between low and high water. Neap range is around 0.2 metres. Tide predictions come from Open-Meteo Marine — accuracy within plus or minus 45 minutes on timing and 0.2 to 0.3 metres on height.

Can I take a ferry to Saint Martin from Rendezvous Bay?

Yes. The Blowing Point ferry terminal at the western end of Rendezvous Bay is the primary ferry connection between Anguilla and Saint Martin. High-speed ferries to Marigot on the French side run frequently throughout the day from approximately 07:30 to 18:30, with a crossing time of 20 to 25 minutes. Multiple operators compete on the route; the Blowing Point service runs more frequently than the Sandy Ground route and is typically the preferred option for travellers. Departure taxes and port fees are collected at the terminal. Book in advance during high season December through April.

Is Rendezvous Bay good for paddleboarding and kayaking?

Rendezvous Bay is arguably the best paddleboarding and flat-water kayaking beach on Anguilla. The south-facing orientation sheltered from the prevailing northeast trade wind maintains flat water conditions through the middle of the day, when north and east coast bays are developing trade wind chop. The water is shallow and clear over the sand flat for a considerable distance, making navigation easy and conditions safe for recreational paddlers at all levels. The resort at the east end rents paddleboards and kayaks to guests; independent operators set up on the beach in high season for non-guests. Morning is best; even this sheltered bay develops a light afternoon offshore ripple.

Is Rendezvous Bay good for swimming with children?

Yes — it is one of the safest family swimming beaches in Anguilla. The south-facing orientation blocks the prevailing northeast swell and wind chop, the bay is wide and gently shelving with no significant shore break, and the water is shallow enough for young children to wade a long distance before it reaches swimming depth. There is no rip current hazard in normal conditions. The only caveat is boat traffic from the Blowing Point ferry terminal at the western end of the bay; keep children away from the ferry approach channel. The mid-bay section, away from both the resort dock and the ferry terminal, is the cleanest family swimming zone.

What is the view from Rendezvous Bay toward Saint Martin?

Rendezvous Bay faces due south across the Caribbean toward Saint Martin, approximately 12 kilometres away. On clear days the forested mountains of the French interior (Pic du Paradis, 424 metres) are clearly visible above the horizon; the developed Dutch-side strip around Philipsburg is visible to the southeast on the right. The flat water and the uninterrupted sightline across the bay make this one of the more reliable viewpoints for observing the scale of the inter-island geography. Golden hour light from the west illuminates the bay and the Saint Martin backdrop from about 17:00 to sunset, which is the optimal photography window.
